Joslyn Henderson
Director of Worship Arts
Joslyn (she/her) serves as the Director of Worship Arts at Christ City. As a nationally celebrated gospel singer and worship leader, she infuses her performative ministry with her scholarship on Black sacred music.
Joslyn’s passion for Black hymnody is unwavering, and she is regularly called to educate on the subject at various conferences, workshops, and symposia. More recent appearances include Wheaton College, the Texas Folklife Roundtable Series and the Rethinking Church Virtual Summit. She is currently a Deborah Carlton Loftis Ambassador of the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada.
As a worship leader, Joslyn utilizes the wealth and diversity of her creative experiences in her ministry. A native of Chicago, the birthplace of Black gospel music, she consistently incorporates the musical repertoire and performative styles of Roberta Martin, Milton Brunson, Thomas Dorsey, and Ricky Dillard into her worship sets. She attributes the freedom and effectiveness of her vocalism to the balancing of her gospel roots with the classical techniques achieved during her tenure at Spelman College, a historically Black college in Atlanta, Georgia.
Joslyn Henderson is a recent graduate of Baylor University, having earned her Master of Divinity and Master of Music in Church Music. While at Baylor, Joslyn served on the musical ministry staff of several churches in the state of Texas. She also served as the Ministry Associate for Worship & Chapel at Baylor.
